Petgood was founded to develop healthy and sustainable products based on the latest research. As part of that work, we continuously evaluate and develop every part of our product and supply chain.
Recent events have raised questions and concern among many of our customers, after levels of glycoalkaloids higher than the recommendations were found. We have taken that concern with the utmost seriousness. We have since taken a number of measures and carried out a thorough review of our entire chain, from raw material to finished product. For us, our customers' trust is essential. We have therefore seen this recent challenge as an opportunity to become even better.
Supported by research, greater transparency and a continuous focus on development, we are now taking another step to strengthen the quality of our products. Our ambition is to offer the very best product on the market, and to create complete peace of mind for our customers.
This has led to two important changes:
1. Potato is excluded from all our dry foods - for maximum control
Potato is an established ingredient with several nutritional benefits, but to create full control over raw material quality and minimise variation, we have chosen to replace it. Instead, we are optimising the recipe with other ingredients that are already part of our dry foods.
2. Production moves to the Nordics - for the highest possible standard
We are moving a large part of production to the Nordics as part of our long-term ambition to work closer to both raw materials and production. For us, this is about building a more local, transparent and controlled value chain. Production takes place in one of the most modern facilities in the region, with the highest quality and traceability requirements in the industry.
It is important to emphasise that our products have always met applicable regulations and been assessed as safe in dialogue with the relevant authorities. But for us, this is not about meeting minimum requirements. It is instead about continuously optimising the level of quality and safety in pet food.
Refined recipes - even higher nutritional density
As part of this work, we have further optimised our recipes with the goal of creating an even more nutritious and balanced composition. We have not replaced the potato with new grain ingredients, but instead increased the proportion of our existing raw materials. The protein from the potato is therefore replaced by a higher proportion of nutritious insect protein.
The result is:
- Increased proportion of insect protein for better digestibility and protein quality
- Strengthened content of dietary fibre to support good stomach and gut health
- Higher levels of essential fatty acids, including omega-3 and omega-6
- Added natural superfoods, such as cranberries and rosemary
The result is a recipe with even higher nutritional density.
The first batch launches in week 17
On 20 April we begin the launch of our new, updated recipes, with insect-based premium food for adult dog, puppy, senior, insects & rice and cat being first out. After that, we will gradually roll out the new recipes across the rest of the range.
We are creating a healthier animal world
We are proud to pave the way for insect-based pet food on a scientific basis. Together with leading universities and research partners, Petgood's veterinary team drives research forward on the health benefits of insect protein. Responsible for our work on product development and research is our knowledgeable chief veterinarian Dr. Nicky Sluczanowski. Together with our research partners, she leads scientific projects and is today a leading veterinarian in the field.
Kind regards,
The Petgood team
