Product safety and our customers' trust are our most important priority. At Petgood, we take quality and the health of our pets with the utmost seriousness. We are therefore now taking a number of measures to ensure low levels of glycoalkaloids in products that have potato as an ingredient. At the same time, it is important to remember that no cases of sick dogs have been established.
There are currently no limit values set in EU legislation for the maximum content of glycoalkaloids in food for dogs. The EU has detailed lists of undesirable substances with strict limit values, but glycoalkaloids from potato are not included on that list for feed. Instead of statutory limit values for glycoalkaloids, EFSA, the EU's independent scientific body, has recommended that levels of glycoalkaloids from potato and processed potato products exceeding 100 mg/kg may lead to analysis. This level is a guideline, not a safety level or a statutory limit value.
After levels that do not comply with these guidelines were found in one of our batches at the end of December, we have taken a number of different measures. We immediately began a thorough investigation and sent raw materials to an external accredited laboratory for analysis.
We have now defined clear target levels based on relevant recommendations and ensure that these are integrated throughout the supply and production chain. This includes updated raw material specifications, strengthened controls on incoming raw materials, clear control in recipe and production, as well as regular verification of the finished product through tests according to an established test plan. We also ensure structured documentation and reporting from our production partners, so that follow-up takes place continuously and transparently. Any identified gaps against recommendations will be addressed through clear action plans and incorporated into our ongoing quality and follow-up processes.
At the same time, it is important to remember that no cases of sick dogs have been established. According to our production partners, who work with the most trusted quality systems (HACCP, ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 22000, among others), the food is safe for our dogs. We also have close dialogue with the Swedish Board of Agriculture (Jordbruksverket). As a precautionary measure, we nevertheless chose to stop the sale of the batch in question at the end of December. The batch in question was withdrawn from the shelves and affected customers were contacted immediately with the request to discard products from the batch in question, marked with best before 2026-07, in return for replacement or refund.
